Blog Post- Random

Random Posts  The weather in Los Angeles lately, has been actually horrible, so I have resorted to binge watching movies and TV shows rather than leaving my apartment. I know I could be reading a book, but books are for summer and movies are for winter. Im gonna tell you some of my favs from the past month and why.  "One Day" is a limited series on Netflix and it is honestly soul crushing, I cried so hard. The show is about a couple who meets on the last day of college, and every episode takes place a year apart on the exact same day. I was honestly not expecting a lot before watching this because Netflix has been putting out some terrible content. However, this show was filmed beautifully and I was able to binge the whole thing in one day (lol).  Next up "Mr. and Ms. Smith" on Amazon Prime, I have not finished this show yet but so far it is great. It's really interesting to see how different it is in comparison to the original, which is such an iconic film. I...

Book 1 Post 2

The book I am currently reading is “ American Like Me” by America Ferrara. It is a plethora of stories and experiences from notable figures and celebrities. If I am being honest, my first impression of the book was different from my understanding of it now. Initially I thought it was going to be more lighthearted, but as I continued to read I realized there was a lot more depth and integration of serious topics. She poses a lot of serious questions about the prejudice and stigma around immigrants.  As an immigrant, I thought I was going to relate to the stories a lot more, because I found assimilating here really difficult. My parents gave up everything for me so that I could be successful and get me to where I am today. However, this book really made me reflect on how lucky I am, and how different everyone’s stories are, even if we think we share similar experiences.  I honestly would recommend this book to anyone, not only was it a really good and easy read. It was also real...

Random Thoughts Pt: 1

American? Like Me?  At first I was intrigued to choose a book outside of the options you provided for us, but I particularly resonated with the excerpt from “American Like Me” by America Ferrera. As an immigrant from South Africa, I found it really difficult to assimilate to life here. The cultural differences seemed so vast and out of place to me as a child. I was constantly going back and forth from the U.S. to South Africa, living my life in between two countries and two very different environments. However, I was so grateful to have grown up this way because it gave me such a global perspective on life. These are the reasons why I chose to start reading this book.  To be quite honest, I am only on the first 20ish pages, but I honestly enjoy it alot so far. I am a really picky reader in the sense that I will know if I like a book or not within the first five pages. I am really glad that this is an easy read because I can relate and I really like her writing style so far. ...
